Purpose of Zoom
The purpose of Project MAIS ZOOM is to integrate exciting new technology into MAIS school science curricula in grades 3 through 8. Science activities that utilize microscopes with attached digital cameras (DigiScopes) linked to personal computers are aligned with Project AERO, the National Science Education Standards (USA NSES), and existing MAIS curricula. |
Project ZOOM will prepare a leadership cadre of MAIS teachers as
Digital Microscopy Leaders or DMLs. During each of the MAIS
conferences of 2006 in Cairo, Egypt and 2007 in Rome, Italy, a cadre
of 15 grades 3 to 8 elementary and middle school DMLs will be
prepared to introduce digital microscopy into their own classrooms
and to diffuse ZOOM technology and educational enhancements to their
grade level colleagues, school leaders, parents, and participants at
forthcoming MAIS annual conferences. Teachers will receive
DigiScopes and related materials for classroom use and will be
encouraged and assisted in securing more from local funds.
Project MAIS ZOOM is designed to excite students about science and
technology while nurturing and sustaining interest in potential
careers. While acquiring problem-solving power, decision-making
skills, and good work habits are all important to potential careers
in science, they are no less essential to a literate, well-informed
citizenry competing in a global economy and dealing with rapid
technological changes. ZOOM is intended to help prepare MAIS
students for the technological challenges of life in a global
economy. |
