Students were especially interested in the Daphnia’s internal
anatomy including the eye, food tube, brood pouch, and beating
heart. |

Here is some of what the students observed. |

In this Daphnia, there appear to be 2 small Daphnia in the brood
pouch. |

Students were also very interested in the Daphnia’s appendages and
their movement.
|

Other organisms observed included Hydra… |

…mold…
|

…and critters sampled from pond water. |

There were lots of student comments like, “Come here! You’ve got to
see this!” “Awesome!” and “Cool.”
|

Cheri was often called upon to observe, interpret, and extend their
discoveries… |

…respond to questions…
|

…and give assistance. |

Even guests were pressed into service. Here Dr. Ken Mechling,
Director of Project ZOOM, helps students wondering about the
movements of Hydra.
