Digital Microscopy Leadership - Grades 6-8 Cairo, Egypt 2006 - Page 2

Participants are given diagrams of microscopic organisms—Amoeba, Chlamydomonas, Cyclops, Euglena, Grammarus, Volvox, etc.—and asked to find their organism’s twin. Here Paul and Melissa match their organisms.

Wayne and Rachael are a match too. They must tell what they know about the organism, identify it, and introduce their partner to the group.

Valerie and Adriana prepare for their mutual group introductions.

Here Vickie introduces the DigiScope and describes its alignment with the standards of Project AERO.

Vickie describes the DigiScope, its components, and how to use them.

Participants take their DigiScopes out of the carrying cases, while Vickie continues to describe its components.

Here Vickie demonstrates how to use the DigiScope as a stand-alone microscope not connected to laptop computers.

Rachael listens to Vickie’s instructions.

Cory and Amina view organisms through their stand-alone microscopes.

Craig and Tina get the “feel” of the DigiScope used as light microscopes.

Melissa checks out some interesting objects found around the room.

Tina investigates microscopic critters.
