Still another makes slides of organisms from the critter table.

A very popular organism was the vinegar eel. There are a lot of them on this slide!

Children were interested in their explorations.

There were lots of questions for the teacher and lots of requests for her to observe interesting findings. “Hey Ms. Centurio, you have to see this! Gross!!”

Third, fourth, and fifth graders became adept at using basic DigiScope functions within a 45-minute period.

Interest was high!

Dr. Vickie Harry, visiting professor from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, challenged the children to try some new microscopic techniques.

Amy Mechling of SSS, Inc. of Clarion, PA guides a student group.

A CAISL teacher of 4th grade assists a group of his students in their microscopic investigations. A major role of the teacher is to guide small groups.

Students displayed enthusiasm and pride in their accomplishments.

In this group of students, using the DigiScope truly became a “hands-on” experience!

Even though the student groups were large, their attention was riveted on manipulating the DigiScope and related Motic software as a means to investigate live organisms.

The field test at CAISL showed high student interest and enthusiasm among third, fourth, and fifth graders. They learned quickly. They were quite capable of using digital microscopy as classroom learning tools.
