Model Zoom Lesson Plans

Following are several lesson plans, called ZOOMplans, intended as models and references for teachers. In reality, they are probably much more detailed than most teachers make, but we wanted to link science content and processes with the technology of DigiScopes—all the while ensuring that Project AERO standards were being addressed. For an excellent guide to DigiScope lessons, we recommend that you examine carefully the booklet that comes with DigiScope purchases. The booklet, titled K-8 Experiment Manual, was written by Kimberlee Stewart, designed by Michael Rose, and edited by Anna Bartlett and Brittany Thomas. It is published by Science Kit and Boreal Laboratories and Motic Incorporation Limited. It includes 17 grades K-4 experiments and 15 grades 5-8 experiments. DigiScope experiments start out with the traditional letter “e, ” move through observations of hair, fabric, crystals, and pond life to experiments with the heartbeats of Daphnia. Many of the following ZOOMplans are based upon those experiments, with variations. In short, K-8 Experimental Manual is an excellent resource and a good place to start developing DigiScope lessons of your own.
